She stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will decide on the further course of action in response to Russia’s statement on the expulsion of two Latvian diplomats. Eglīte also emphasized that, traditionally, the names of expelled diplomats are not disclosed.

It has already been written that on March 27, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) made a decision to declare a diplomat of the Russian Embassy as a person undesirable to the state.

On March 27, Russia’s temporary plenipotentiary officer Oļegs Zikovs was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to whom a categorical protest from the Latvian side was expressed regarding the unacceptable and provocative public communication carried out by the embassy for a long time, which is in clear contradiction with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Despite repeated reprimands from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Embassy has continued “incorrect public communication aimed at discrediting the institutes and institutions of Latvian state power and inciting hatred in Latvian society”.

Taking this into account, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has included a diplomat in the list of undesirable persons for Latvia, who had to leave Latvia by the end of April 10.
