Cronulla have secured a hard-fought victory over Shane Flanagan’s Dragons, winning 20-10 at Shark Park on Sunday afternoon.

There were initial fears the game could be postponed after images emerged of the ground flooded due to torrential rain.

However, they were quickly put to bed and Flanagan returned to Shark Park for the first time as coach of the Red V having previously led Cronulla to a premiership in 2016.

The first half was an arm wrestle, with the Sharks securing the first points through an Oregon Kaufusi run, barging his way over.

Then the Dragons hit back twice, both times through winger Mikaela Ravalawa with the first being orchestrated by Ben Hunt and the second Tyrell Sloan.

It was anyone’s game going into the break with the Dragons leading 10-6, however the Sharks came out in the second period with a bang.

Nicho Hynes found a surging Siosifa Talakai who scored in the 45th minute, taking a slender two-point lead.

Once again Hynes sparked another try, with cult hero Tom Hazelton charging through the middle of the park, bumping off defenders on his way to the white line.

The Cronulla faithful once again showed their love for the bald-headed prop, chanting his name as the Sharks walked back preparing to receive the kick-off.

Craig Fitzgibbon’s team continued their charge from there and put the game to bet with Hynes penalty goal.

The Sharks now sit atop the NRL ladder after nine rounds.
