The producer responsibility system company “Zaļa josta” in cooperation with the chain of stores “Kurši” and the hazardous waste processing company “BAO” is organizing an electrical engineering handover campaign on Saturday, April 6, informed the environmental education manager of “Zaļa josta” Aija Caune.

On Electrosaturday, residents will not only be able to comfortably, legally and free of charge get rid of their unnecessary and worn-out electrical equipment, but also participate in a surprise prize draw.

“There is not always the time and opportunity to find a place where environmentally hazardous waste – electrical engineering – can be handed over, so we come to meet the residents in the regions of Latvia, organizing campaigns so that electrical engineering can be disposed of as conveniently as possible. We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity and hand over all kinds of non-dismantled electrical equipment that you no longer need, such as an old refrigerator, electric lawnmower, printer, toaster, TV, iron, microwave oven, mobile phone, electric toothbrush or hair dryer,” said Caune. .

On April 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., electrical equipment can be handed over to the “Kurši” store, which is located in six cities or parishes in Latvia:

Items that can be connected to electricity that contain a microchip or microchip must not be thrown in the household waste, and this condition also applies to very small electrical engineering units.

Any electrical engineering is hazardous waste made of a wide variety of materials – toxic heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, mercury, copper, etc., various plastics, glass, substances that prevent ignition, therefore, when they enter the environment, they can pollute groundwater and endanger human health. health. For example, refrigerators and freezers use freon to cool the air, which can harm the ozone layer when released into the environment.

On the other hand, at the recycling points, the electrical equipment handed over is disassembled and sorted according to the components, in the following processes they are recycled in order to be used again in production.

Hazardous waste, including electrical engineering, should not end up in waste containers or in the environment. They must be delivered to one of at least 67 sorting points and areas established by waste managers. Their location can be found on the website www.atkritumi.lv.
