Finnish rally driver Miko Heikila will not start this weekend in the 2nd stage of the European Rally Championship, which will be held in the Canary Islands.

Heikkila’s Hungarian ERČ was the leader after the ninth stage, but in the tenth stage the Finnish driver retired due to a suspension defect, remaining without points. Let us remind you that this year ERC has eight stages, of which only three will be held on gravel. Taking into account that Heikil is closer to gravel rallies and he is not so strong on asphalt stages, the Finn has announced that he will not start in the Canary Islands Rally.

“After a long and difficult period of evaluating our situation, I have decided not to participate in the Rally of the Canary Islands,” he begins Miko Heikila. “It was a really awkward decision, but after the huge disappointment in Hungary it seemed like the smartest of all the bad options. The beginning of the season has been much more expensive than we had previously anticipated in the budget.”

“As you know, there are only three gravel stages this year at ERC, and one of them already failed, so I think we cannot fight for good results on asphalt. It doesn’t mean that you have to give up, you just have to try to make the best choices and save the budget for rallies where I can really fight for the top positions.”

“I’m really sorry for everyone involved, but we’ll see each other again on the 13th-15th. in June at the Royal Scandinavian Rally in Sweden, which I’m already looking forward to,” concludes Heikila.
