The Prime Minister said a month and a half ago that she does not know when all the plans of the Ministry of Transport could be decided in the government, because it is not even clear who is really responsible for finances, design and procurement.

Briškens points out that there is more clarity now: “It was important for me that the plan by 2030 included both Riga stations, and at the same time significant cost savings. At the moment, the initial costs have been reduced by 35%.”

The State Audit Office around Jānai will report on the results of the current audit of “Rail Baltica”. It is intended to explain when the project will be completed and how much it will cost. Compared to the estimate in 2017, currently the costs have increased at least three times, according to Brišken. He confirms that in the first phase, by 2030, it is possible to introduce the main line from the Southern side to Riga Airport and to Riga Central Station. According to the minister, the part of the Riga Central Station and the element of the Southern Main Line can be completed with a delay of a couple of years.
