Each day of the Green Week will be dedicated to a different theme, inviting ZRKAC visitors to gain useful knowledge about the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle.

Throughout the week, the institution’s guests will be invited to start a new commitment, drawing inspiration from the Green Habits Tree. Also, learning of green skills will be integrated in all lessons, for example, the topic of green lifestyle will be included in both English and national language lessons.

From May 7 to 10, in the lobby of ZRKAC, you will be able to view the exhibition of works created by children of the preschool educational institution “I learn to learn” on the topic “How I take care of nature”, while on the social portal of ZRKAC “Facebook” inspiring stories of ZRKAC employees will be published every day about what green lifestyle habits do they follow in their everyday life.

May 7 will be a plastic-free day, when ZRKAC employees and visitors will be invited to use environmentally friendly materials, for example, using only recyclable packaging, not drinking water from PET bottles, choosing sustainable clothing and jewelry or cosmetics without synthetic additives. Also, on this day, ZRKAC staff and guests of the institution are invited to wear green clothes, thus symbolically expressing their support for the idea “Let’s think and act green”.

On May 8, from 16:00 to 18:30, a Family Day is planned, inviting parents to participate in various activities together with their children. Adults will have the opportunity to participate in two master classes – teachers and students of Jelgava Amatu Secondary School will lead a master class on the preparation of fermented products, while Maija Jasēviča will introduce the participants to the possibilities of preparing and using kombucha. In both master classes, you will have the opportunity to taste the products and find out their valuable effects on human health. Children will be able to meet Pigman, who will learn about nature conservation issues, and engage in various games, as well as creative workshops, including playing the role of nature detectives, learning about climate change, making a cloud spotter and a green “pet”. To participate in Family Day activities, no prior registration is required.

May 9 will be dedicated to learning about biological diversity, inviting ZRKAC employees and visitors to bring a seed or seedling to the ZRKAC herb garden. At 5:30 p.m., a master class “Spikeris in backyard composting” is planned, in which environmental management engineer and “Komposts LV” content author Zane Kopstāle will share knowledge about what compost is, how to organize bio-waste sorting at your place of residence (both indoors and in the yard), what can be composted and how to use it properly. Participation in this master class requires advance registration, which can be done here.

The Green Week will end on May 10 with the motto “Leave your car at home!” – every ZRKAC employee and visitor is encouraged to move on foot or to choose a more environmentally friendly means of transport, such as a bicycle or public transport, on this day, thus making a small contribution to preserving air cleanliness.

Also, on May 9 at 10 a.m., as well as on May 10 at 10 and 11 a.m., groups of preschool and primary school students are invited to participate in the “Green mornings for children” classes. Each lesson will last one hour – on May 9 it will be devoted to learning about nature, and in both lessons on May 10, children will study climate issues. During the lessons, in addition to learning new knowledge, the participants will also take part in an eco-workshop and at the end they will plant and water plants in the ZRKAC herb garden. You can apply for the participation of groups of preschool or primary school students in these classes by calling 63082101.

Admission to all ZRKAC Green Week events is free. Additional information is available by calling 63082101 or writing to the e-mail address [email protected].
