There is no plowing at work with growling bellies. The most hard-working (and thrifty) always comes to the office with home-cooked food, pausing to judge a delicious mouthful, the most resistant bites into a freshly bought bar or muffin. But there are also gourmets who like a proper, hearty meal for lunch, but not so much about cooking. For such people, in the daily rush, eateries that are close to the workplace and do not empty the wallet are extremely helpful. Good for those who live in the center of Riga – there are dining options on almost every corner. In nearby Pārdaugava, at least in the vicinity of Mūkusala, where the “Delfi” office is located, there are much fewer options – only four. And which one to choose?

Mūsu pirmais stāsts ir par Latvijas Universitātes Zinātņu mājas kafejnīcu “Cantina”. Kraukšķīgi frī kartupeļi un nostalģiskas atmiņas par skolas ēdnīcu vislabāk raksturo mūsu pirmo pētījuma objektu. “Ekspedīcijā” mums pievienojas arī viesis – Nacionālā teātra aktieris un reperis Igors Šelegovskis.

Kad studentu burzma jau pierimusi, dodamies nobaudīt, ko piedāvā universitātes ēdnīca. Rindā uz vilinoši smaržīgajām kotletēm noraugās vien daži gardēži. Lielākā daļa vēderus jau palutinājuši – sēž pie patukšiem šķīvjiem, sarunājas un zinīgi māj ar galvu. Nav jau brīnums – ierodamies ēdnīcā mazliet pēc vieniem, kad gudrās galvas jau paklīdušas auditoriju un klašu virzienos.

Ēdnīca iekārtota it kā gaitenī, blakus garderobei, kur var ērti atstāt virsdrēbes. Lai gan te neskan mūzika, karotes un dakšas nešķind klusumā – kakofoniju rada nemitīgās studentu čalas. Visapkārt valda rosība, lai arī brīvu vietu pie plastmasas galdiņiem vēl gluži daudz.
