A garden festival for people with mental disorders will be held in Viesturdarz in a week

“Krister is a 23-year-old young man with unique talents, but his everyday life is significantly affected by the cards dealt in life. We would like to draw attention to the fact that there are more than 30 thousand people with GRT in Latvia, which prevents them from fully participating in public life and enjoying the same benefits as the rest of us. By organizing such a celebration, we want to emphasize that each of these people is an individuality and a personality and deserves a respectful life,” says Ieva Rosne, Krister’s mother and head of the social enterprise Faveo, organizer of the event.

During the festival, you will have the opportunity to meet many supporting artists – musicians Daumanta Kalniņa and Kristīni Zadovska, artist and rector of the Latvian Academy of Arts Kristaps Zariņa, mime Pēteris Rimša, cello trio “Melo-M”, groups “Mother of Pearl”, “Letti”, “Pacific K”, as well as Vari Piņķi with friends.

Actors Andris Keišs and Tom J Bennedict, DJ and journalist Uldis Rudaks and many others will take part in the event. Painters Gita Šmite and Signe Vanadziņa will work together with young people in the creative workshops, while their favorite T-shirts will be painted together with textile artist Juta Treija. Event manager Vita Balčunaite will take care of the festive atmosphere.

“We hope to organize an afternoon full of surprises – a real garden party – with lanterns, flags, soap bubbles, crayons and laughter. Let’s tell tales, sing songs, create our own ensemble of percussion instruments, play games and take care of surprises,” said the organizer of the event, the manager of the social enterprise “Faveo”, noting that young people from day centers and group homes will also be invited to the garden festival. The doors will also be open to the general public.

The materials for the creative workshops are provided by the “Latvian Art Academy Foundation”, but the charity garden celebration will take place in the scenography created as part of the “Meeting place at the arch” event of the “Ascendum” association.
