The Ministry of Health, strengthening the knowledge and skills of pedagogues and support staff on reducing the spread of bullying in the educational environment, continues to implement free professional development courses for pedagogues throughout Latvia. During the courses, the lecturers will present the guidelines developed in 2023 for reducing bullying and prepare educators and support staff to work with these guidelines.

Bullying is a form of emotional abuse that increases physical and mental health risks, lowers adolescent self-esteem, and impairs social skills, academic achievement and success. In order to reduce this, the Ministry of Health has prepared guidelines together with specialists.

In order to promote the implementation of the guidelines in Latvian educational institutions, two-day face-to-face professional development courses for pedagogues on reducing the spread of bullying will be organized. During them, educators, support staff of educational institutions and other representatives will have the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills about bullying in the educational environment, its types, roles and consequences, as well as prevention and reduction of its spread.

Free two-day professional development courses will be held in person throughout Latvia. It is planned to implement 12 courses for at least 200 employees of educational institutions. Next course dates:

  • 14.-15. May, at “Rixwell Gertrude” hotel, Gertrudes iela 70, Riga;

  • 20-21 May, “Saldus youth house”, Liela iela 3C, Saldus;

  • 23-24 May, at “Rixwell Gertrude” hotel, Gertrudes iela 70, Riga.

Accommodation and meals are provided for course participants. The developed guidelines will be sent to each course participant before the training, but at the end of the course, each participant will receive a certificate of completion of the teacher’s professional competence improvement program.

The professional development courses are co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus project No. 4.1.2.1. “National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Measures”.
