• For the second night in a row, Latvia scored the first goal of the game, but if yesterday it happened at the beginning of the match, tonight – only in the 39th minute, when Agnese Apsīte corrected Anna Kubliņa’s pass (1:0).
• The Latvians were in the lead for only 46 seconds – the puck went to Aurora Abatangelo in front of the goal (1:1).
• In the decisive third period, Latvia squandered another majority, however, the victory was won by a counterattack with equal formations – in the 54th minute, Ilarija Girardi could not cope with Krista Jip-Caka’s shot (2:1).
• The Italians already removed the goalkeeper at the end of the 57th minute, but 46 seconds later, Karina Šilajane masterfully hit an empty goal from her side of the field. In the last minute, Italy recovered one puck, but could not save – the home team won 3:2.
• Jipa-Čaka, the author of the second goal, was recognized as the best hockey player of the game for Latvia, while Šilajane scored 1+1 tonight.
• Having played in the IIA division a year ago, the Latvian women’s national team celebrated its first victory in the IB division since April 2019, when it beat Kazakhstan 2:1 in the bullpen in Beijing. Back then, I had to drop down a level anyway.
• Minor changes were made in the third series. Forward Hanna Strauss and defender Luise Zemesaraja were promoted to the third shift, replacing Kjaras Želubovska and Ksenia Kezika.
• After one day off, Latvia will play its next game on Wednesday against Slovenia, which started with a victory over Poland (4:1) and a loss to Slovakia (0:4), to which the Latvians capitulated yesterday with 1:7.
• In another group game today, Poland overcame a two-goal deficit to win overtime with 21 seconds remaining to beat Great Britain (3-2) in overtime.
