Contestants will showcase their skills in 20 different skills competitions in the fields of creative arts and fashion technology, information and communication technology, manufacturing and engineering technology, community and individual services, building and construction technology, and transport and logistics.

In January and February, the semi-finals of the competition were held, and eleven Jelgava school students won the opportunity to participate in the finals. The finals of “Skills Latvia” will be attended by the students of Jelgava Technical School Daniils Vocišs, Alens Silnieks, Ralfs Viļumsons, Ralfs Skujevskis, who will compete in the engineering systems competition, Ralfs Ormanis, Marko Šilinskis, who will participate in the tiling competition, Kristaps Dombrovskis will compete in the computer network administration competition, Dāgs Neliuss – web in the technology competition, Jānis Alksnis – in the painting and decorative decoration competition and Reinis Markuss Lepa, who will prove his skills in the furniture making skills competition. On the other hand, Amanda Kalve, a student of Jelgava Vocational High School, will prove her mastery in the hairdressing skills competition.

It should be noted that the tasks of the competition will be brought closer to the requirements of international professional excellence competitions and the performance of young people will be evaluated by a jury of almost 70 experts from different fields.

The deputy director of Jelgava Technical School Uldis Sokolovs says that the students prepared for the competition for 2-3 school years under the guidance of vocational education pedagogues, gradually improving their professional competences in the training laboratories of Jelgava Technical School.

It should be noted that in last year’s “Skills Latvia 2023” competition, Jelgava residents won seven awards – one 1st place, four 2nd places and two 3rd places.

Everyone is invited to watch the competition of young professionals in person. Contest visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the educational programs offered by Latvian vocational education institutions, as well as explore educational and career options together with the career counselors of the Latvian Career Development Support Association.

The contest takes place on May 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ķipsala exhibition center. You can get acquainted with the program of competition activities HERE.

Entry to the event and parking are free.

The winners of the competition will be awarded on May 11. The award ceremony can be followed live on the Facebook and YouTube accounts of the State Education Development Agency, on the Facebook account of SkillsLatvia, as well as on the news portal “Delfi”.
