Green Family Day brings together young and old
On Wednesday, the Zemgale Region Competence Development Center (ZRKAC) hosted a Green Family Day, gathering children and adults in educational master classes and workshops.
The children were welcomed by the defender of clean forests, Cūkmens, inviting them to take care of nature and always pick up the garbage left behind. Also, the children assumed the role of nature detectives, looking for various hidden natural materials in the green area of ZRKAC, and also learned questions about nature and animals, including dinosaurs.
In the creative workshops, the smallest crafters had the opportunity to make a cloud finder, a green “pet” or grass head, as well as create a Mother’s Day greeting card from natural materials.
But the adults took part in two master classes – teachers and students of Jelgava Amatu Secondary School led a master class on cooking fermented products, while Maija Jasēviča introduced the participants to the possibilities of making and using kombucha or tea. At the same time, the participants also found out the valuable effects of these products on human health.
After learning the theoretical knowledge, the attendees were invited to taste kombucha and various fermented products, including kimchi, sauerkraut, pickled and pickled cucumbers, bread and fermented yogurt.
It should be reminded that ZRKAC will be holding Green Week until May 10, organizing various free events. The Green Week is organized with the aim of increasing green thinking in our perception of life and daily actions, informing the public about nature conservation issues, human impact on the environment and opportunities to change our habits in the form of educational events.
