Before the exams, anxiety for students, but also for teachers

115 high school students will take the exams in Valmiera Pārgauja State Gymnasium. The most popular subject is English. Least interest in chemistry and social studies.

“The anxiety is not great. I understand that I have learned more or less most of what I need to learn. There is a little stress about the fact itself,” admitted Richards, a 12th-grade student of Valmiera’s Pārgauja State Gymnasium.

“The thing that scares me the most is that I still don’t know where I will go next. Exams are starting to scare me more and more, because I understand that they will be right away. I need to study and understand where I will go and what I will do at the same time,” said the 12th grader of Valmiera’s Pargauja State Gymnasium. class student Daniel.

“I stress quite a lot because I want to pass the exams well, because my goal in university is to be in the budget,” said Kristīne, a 12th-grade student of this school.

The biggest concern in Vidzeme schools is about the conduct of the exams, the wording of the exam questions and, of course, the results.

“Mathematics exam, because unfortunately we have to solve non-standard problems there, there are different situations, and we have to think a little outside the everyday process. This, just like in the whole country, also worries us a little,” said the director of Smiltene High School Inguna Kondratjeva.

The new education system is evaluated differently

Educators are also trying to formulate their attitude towards the new education system, and the answers are varied.

Agita Klētniece, deputy director of the Valmiera Pārgauja State Gymnasium in the field of education, argued that “the “school2030″ program has brought about major changes both in the content of education, in the curricula, and in the way the subject is taught in lessons, but this year’s students have been studying this for at least three years educational content”.

Gita Apsīte, teacher of Latvian language and literature at Valmiera Pārgauja State Gymnasium, on the other hand, believes that “there is no need to divide such advanced and optimal levels. Advanced is not language at all, there is literature, there you can even find that you know the language even worse than the optimal level. In the end, they have a coefficient one, but those who perform at the optimal level have a lower ratio, even though they are required to do more or at least the same.”

But Dina Dombrovska, the deputy head of the Education Administration of the Cēsis region, said that “the new content may give a background of ignorance about how the task will be formulated, how the text will look – whether I will understand from the open question what I will have to do”.

VISC hopes to quickly address issues should they arise

Last year, some schools faced various technical problems in conducting online exams.

In order to reduce tension and also technological failures, the State Education Content Center (VISC) has held several seminars for students and teachers.

“If the educational institution has any problems during the exam – it is an individual problem for the student or a problem for the school -,

they immediately contact the VISC user support service and the problem is immediately eliminated,” explained Kaspars Špūle, head of VISC’s general education examination departments.

This year, more than 50,000 ninth-grade students and the same number of high school students will take the exams.
