The achievements of Vecpiebalga’s dart players – eDruva.lv

Dart players of the “Vecpiebalga” darts club are very active, we see them in all the most important national tournaments. At the beginning of April, they, representing the Cēsis region, competed in the 61st darts competition of the Latvian Municipal Sports Veterans – Seniors Union. It was a return to the circuit, as Cēsis County had not participated in the mentioned games in this sport for a few years. The team includes dart throwers of the Vecpiebalga club, Avelīna Lāce, Andis Lauva, Jānis Zommers and Kaspars Kalējs.

Seven teams entered the tournament, first playing matches in two subgroups to determine the four that will advance to the semi-finals. The beginning was not successful for the Cēsi team, they lost in the first game, but it made them mobilize for the future, and it was successful. The team of Cēsi region reached the semi-finals and also the final, where they competed with the dart players of Ludza region. The fate of the winners’ title was decided by one dart, both teams had a chance to win, but the Cēsis region triumphed with the result 3:2.

It can be added that the dart throwers of the Ludza district team – Marija Ružāne, Laimonis Naglis, Aivars Šutka and Gunārs Sommers – are well known to old fans, as they are regular participants in the Vecpiebalga championship. They also took part in the penultimate 8th round competition, in which 36 dart throwers took part in the target. As usual, the preliminary round was first held in eight groups, from which the three best entered the playoffs, while those who did not make it out of the groups played the “Satisfaction Tournament”. It was won by the host Avelīna Lāce. Home team Oskars Kuzmans played the playoffs perfectly, winning the fourth victory of the season. The balance of the season is excellent for him: he participated in seven stages, won in four, was in second place three times.

2nd place this time Kaspars Kalējs, 3rd Gunārs Sommers, 4th Jānis Sommers, 5th-6th place Modris Kandavnieks, Laimonis Naglis.

After eight rounds, O. Kuzmans leads the overall standings with 169 points, G. Sommers is only one point behind. There is one more round left to determine the champion, and according to the regulations, the results of the best seven stages will be included in the overall ranking, but it should be noted that the amount of points is doubled in the last, ninth, round.

Kaspars Kalējs – 143 points, Andis Lauva – 140, Yevgēnijs Shantars – 135, Jānis Zommers – 132 are also in the top six overall. Everything shows that the final round will be exciting.
