US and G7 talks on support for Ukraine

More than 300 billion dollars are frozen in the USA and Europe

The American plan calls for the G7 countries to give $50 billion in aid to Ukraine, and then the European Union will compensate by freezing some of the frozen Russian assets. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also pointed to discussions about such a plan.

According to the “Bloomberg” agency, the United States is currently trying to reach an agreement on allocating a large sum of money to Ukraine by the G7 leaders’ summit in Italy in June. According to Minister Jelena, ideally, the Americans would like all G7 countries to participate in the initiative, not just the United States.

The goal of the US in such negotiations is the desire to find a way to provide Ukraine with as much support as possible quickly, and not in smaller amounts.

But according to people close to the talks, discussions on the topic have been difficult and it could take months to reach an agreement. The European Union has been unable to agree on the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine for a long time.

Most European countries oppose asset freezes, fear legal repercussions and are skeptical of proposals they believe could undermine the euro’s stability or expose it to Russian retaliation.

European countries currently have frozen assets in the amount of approximately 300 billion euros, while in the United States – a little more than 6 billion US dollars.

It is expected that the Russian assets frozen in Europe will generate about 5 billion euros in profits annually.

Russia is still trying to advance as far as possible on the eastern front

The talks come as Russia moves purposefully into eastern Ukraine in an effort to make as much progress as possible before US-approved aid reaches the front. Analysts say that the enemy advanced near Avdijivka in the Donetsk region and near Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region during the past 24 hours. Attacks also continue east of Chasivyar.

“Their tactics have basically not changed since the beginning of the full-scale war – they are waves of people, they spare no one. Whoever reaches the position, survives, holds it. The rest are either wounded or killed. They said on the radio – whoever retreats will be shot. With that they are threatened.

It doesn’t matter to them, even if ten of the unit are killed, nothing, ten more will arrive in half an hour.

Yes, we are losing positions as a result, but for some reason people are used to thinking that if we lose them, then we have not succeeded in something. We are fighting as best we can, but our resources are also not inexhaustible, especially in terms of people,” said Petro, one of Chasivyar’s defenders.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian air defense forces shot down all 13 Shahed attack drones sent to the country on Saturday night. However, several fires broke out in Kharkiv due to the falling debris, which were extinguished by rescue services today.
