Every year on May 4, the day of restoration of Latvia’s Independence, the celebration of the holiday becomes a favorite and family tradition, where families and friends come together to cherish the love of the Motherland.
One scenario for the holiday is as follows. At home, the Latvian flag flutters majestically, Latvian songs are played and a festive meal is prepared. All the hosts – both young and old – are in festive clothes and the table is covered with a white tablecloth.
A completely different scenario is when we choose to go out to enjoy special holiday programming, often free, indulging in culture, art and togetherness. The 4th of May guide will present the events in the capital. The program is extensive and will suit any taste. Have a beautiful holiday!

Placing flowers at the Freedom Monument
The celebrations dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia will begin on May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument.
From 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., a ceremony dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia will be held in Brīvības Square. Latvian school brass band parade program.

From 12.00 to 18.00 creative workshops for the whole family will take place in Arkadija Park and Latgale Park – “Create a green Latvia!“.
Visitors will be able to assume the roles of foresters and gardeners, plant a tree or flowers in a pot, which will later be transplanted into their garden, backyard or forest.
On the other hand, from 15.00 to 16.00 there will be performances in both parks Latvian school brass bands.

A creative workshop will also take place in Värmanes garden from 13.00 to 17.00 “Create a green Latvia!“as well as entertainment will be provided by the musical program for children “Are you in Latvia“ and other creative workshops for the whole family.
During the event, in Värmanes garden, you will be able to participate in various creative workshops – together with illustrator and comic artist Rebeka Lukošus, you can create your own The story of the white tablecloth, make your own flag or badge for blooming Latvia by painting flower pots or a fabric bag. The musical program consists of children’s vocal ensembles “Podziňa”, “Kolibri”, “Momo”, “Knīpas u Knauķi”, “Poppy”, “Dzeguzīte” and the musical association “BikiGRUPA”. The event will be hosted by actor Rihards Zeleznev.
On the other hand, from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the 4th of May will take place in the “Splendid Palace” cinema Latvian film marathon.
Put on the folk costume in honor of Latvia!

From 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the annual promotion will take place in Rātslaukum, Old Riga “Put on the folk costume in honor of Latvia!“ and the holiday concert “Different Roads”.
The gathering for the procession of folk costumes through the districts will take place in Rātslaukum starting at 12.30, and at 13.00 the opening of the festival will be held together with the group of folklore and ancient battles “Wolves”.
It will take place from 1:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m festive procession on the route Kaļķu iela-Brīvības laukums, between 14.00 and 14.40 by placing flowers at the Freedom monument.

At 15.00, the festive concert will start in the Town Hall Square “Other roads“. The concert will feature soloists: Aija Vītoliņa, Atis Auzāns, Dagnis Roziņš, Katō, Mārtiņš Kanters, Raimonds Celms, Samanta Tīna; instrumental group: Artūrs Sebris (saxophone), Dairis Petrauskis (drums), Edgars Jass (keyboards), Gatis Priekulis (guitar), Marija Vasilijeva (accordion), Rolands Stepanov (bass guitar). Musical producer – Uldis Timma. On the other hand, from 17.00 to 18.00 there will be a concert by the group “Laimas muzykanti”, from 18.00 to 19.00 the concert by the group “Jauno Jāņu orķestris”, and from 19.00 to 20.00 – a concert by the group “Raxtu raxti”. The program will be led by Raimonds Celms, directed by Sandis Kalniņš.
Meanwhile, at 4:00 p.m., a National Day concert will be held at the cultural palace “Ziemeļblāzma”. “National Women of Latvia“, where the ethno-pop music group “Tautumeitas” will perform.

On the other hand, at 16.00 in the cultural center “Mazā gilde” there will be a concert of the youth choir “Voices”. “for Latvia“in which the singer Ieva Parša and the instrumental ensemble will also participate.
A concert will be held at VEF Culture Palace at 18.00 “Latvian (from) sounds“. Orchestra “Rīga”, conductor Valdis Butāns, actress Guna Zariņa, concert manager Signe Lagzdiņa will take part in the concert.
