Rihards Bukarts scored three goals for Latvia, Kaspars Daugavins scored twice, while Mārtiņš Dzierkals, Miks Indrašis and Roberts Kaļķis each shot accurately. In the goal, Kristers Gudlevskis saved all the shots until he was replaced by Erik Vitols four minutes before the final whistle.

In the 7th minute, the home team turned the strong energy in the attack into a goal, when Robert Bukart corrected the puck thrown by Ralf Freiberg. The Latvian national team played much more actively in attack and in the last minute before the break, Dzierkals doubled the advantage of the hosts with a precise wrist shot, realizing the numerical majority.

In the second period, the puck thrown by Indraš was not controlled by the Norwegian goalkeeper Henriks Haukeland, and Latvia’s advantage reached 3:0. Haukeland, who was covered by Kalk’s shot, noticed it too late, and the puck flew into the Norwegian goal for the fourth time. The fifth goal came on a power play 23 seconds before the final break, with Rihard Bukart scoring.

Having started the last third with a 5-0 lead, the hosts had not lost their appetite for scoring goals. Daugavins used the opportunity to freely direct the puck into Haukeland’s goal from close range. Until the middle of the period, Daugavins corrected the flight of the puck after a strong pass by Jānis Jakas and the score became 7:0. Haukeland also failed to stop the puck after Rihard Bukart’s shot from the middle of the zone, and the striker managed to score a hat trick or the third goal.

The two teams already met on Friday, when the Norwegian hockey players won 1:0 in overtime.

The World Championship will start in the Czech Republic on May 10, and the Latvian national team will start the group tournament on May 11 in Ostrava with a match against Poland. In the continuation of the group stage, they will have to play against France (May 12), Kazakhstan (May 14), Germany (May 15), Sweden (May 18), Slovakia (May 19) and the USA national team (May 21).
