Tour The best of the best the musicians’ association will start at the Valmiera Culture Center on April 26 at 19.00, continues in the Liepāja Concert Garden Blow wind! on May 31 at 19.00 and in Jelgava open-air concert hall Mītava on Post Island on June 16 at 19.00 On the other hand, in the middle of the summer, on the evening of July 9, it will be held in Mežaparka’s Great Stage in Riga Melo-M mega-orchestra big concert, in which 135 cellists will play together.
The cello trio consists of three academically educated musicians – Miķelis Dobičins, Kārlis Auzāns, Jānis Pauls – and drum virtuoso Miķelis Vīte. A selection of the group’s repertoire has been created according to the name of the program. “Concentrated essence of our entire range of compositions. Let’s go through the years and see which is the best of the best that caught on. There are already quite a few to choose from, because Melo-M has existed for 19 years,” says trio leader Kārlis Auzāns. “Our concert will be very colorful – with both original music, pop music, rock music and some folk music hits. There will be long-unheard tracks from our first albums that we had shelved for quite some time, for example Boney-M song Daddy Cool or German pop bands Nena an anti-war song 99 Red Balloons. On the other hand, the composition of the famous Greek keyboard player and composer Vangelis (real name Evangels Odisejs Papatanasiu, 1943–2022) entered our repertoire only this year. There will also be my original compositions that I have composed Melo-M. An insight into the feelings of folk music is also expected.” When this program was recently performed in Lithuania at St. Catherine’s Cathedral in Vilnius, the audience gave a standing ovation. In December, there will be a performance in Kaunas and Palanga.
At the big concert on July 9, in which Melo-M gathers young cellists from all over Latvia every two years, this time with a record-breaking composition. “It must be something epic, unique and especially emotional for both the players and the listeners. Currently, 135 young cellists have applied – graduates, students and students of the Academy of Music and music high schools. We are very open, and we are very happy that everyone actively wants to participate. Last time there were 96 cellists. This is a unique opportunity for classical musicians to play on the big stage. We have been holding such concerts for ten years, but for such a large cello orchestra, which will gather this summer, there is really enough space only in the stage environment of Mežaparks,” comments K. Auzāns.
