The big football match is already today – the Riga derby will be held at the “Skonto” stadium

Today, in the central match of the last, ninth round of the first round of the “Tonybet” Latvian football superleague, the capital’s big clubs “Riga” and RFS will meet. The match at “Skonto” stadium will start at 19:00, it will be broadcast live on TV4 channel.

Both teams are expected to meet in the first two positions of the tournament, with RFS having one more point in the tournament table. In the first mutual game of the season – the Super Cup – the players of “Riga”, who also won last year’s final of the Latvian Cup, were superior in the series of shots after the game. On the other hand, in the 2023 Super League tournament, all four games ended in a draw, two of them – without goals scored.

“Riga” attack leader Marko Reža, with seven goals scored, is confidently the first in the list of the best “bombers” in the Premier League. He is three goals ahead of the closest followers – among whom is RFS forward Darko Lemajić. Both Regža and Lemajić did not play in the previous match. This season, Riga’s biggest clubs will fight each other in the last rounds of the rounds.

Before that, at 16:00, the teams “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” and “Valmieras” will meet on the artificial field of the Tukums city stadium. The results of both teams in the last four games are identical – one draw and two losses with one win in between. It is true that the vice-champion “Riga” was defeated by Tukum residents in this section.

In the previous season, out of four Super League matches, Valmieri won two, Tukum team won one, and one battle ended in a draw, with a total of 18 goals scored in these matches. In the quarter-finals of the Latvian Cup, the Tukuma team won 1:0.

Due to the accumulated warnings, center back Maruan Mihubi will not be able to help the home team, while midfielder Andriy Korobenko will not play for the guests for the same reason. On Friday, the ninth round started with a duel in which “Auda” won 3:1 against “Metta” team. At the end of the round on Sunday, “Daugavpils” will fight at home with “Liepaja” and “Jelgava” will host debutants “Grobiņa”/LFS.

After eight rounds, RFS is the leader with 19 points, while “Riga” takes second place with 18 points, while “Daugavpils” and “Auda” are further with 14 points, having played eight and nine matches, respectively. “Valmiera” and “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” scored 13 points each, “Grobiņa”/LFS took seventh place with eight points, “Metta” scored seven points, “Liepāja” six, and “Jelgava” five.

The Premier League championship with the participation of ten teams takes place in four rounds, with each team playing 36 games. 180 games are expected to be played until November 9. Last season, RFS became the champion for the second time, which ensured the victory only in the last round, winning over “Metta” team with 1:0.
