At what age should a child be weaned from diapers? Buzotova explains that day and night phases are divided. As for the day – up to three or four years, for the night – five or six years, when the child develops control over the content of urine. These are mental ages, which are related to anatomical and functional development, it is also determined by individual development.

There are several age stages in which potty training is easier to master, emphasized Melngalve. One stage is one and a half to two years, which develops naturally at home – the child develops interest, the ability to take off and put on pants by himself, go to the potty, sit down and get up from the potty.

Teaching a one-and-a-half- to two-year-old child to use the potty is a parent’s wish, said Bozotova. A child is born with reflex urination, as the brain develops over time, we can talk about the stability of the obtained reflex.

The activities of parents, bringing a child to the potty from one and a half years old, are welcome, but you cannot offer anything by insisting, because then the child will have a negative experience and protests.

The beginning of potty training should not coincide with any other important events in the child’s life, for example, the child starts going to the garden, Melngalve emphasized. Parents need to be balanced and understand that potty training may or may not succeed immediately. “Definitely not with a lot of stress so it doesn’t cause complications,” Blackhead emphasized.

At the beginning of potty training, Bozotova advises the child to take off the pamper and sit on the potty after waking up, but usually the child’s body language helps to understand when it is necessary to go to the potty. There are no specific recommendations for timing and methods. As warm weather approaches, we pull off the pamper, allowing the child to understand the action himself, said Bozotova.

During the training process, it is important that the child feels wet pants, it helps, wearing diapers prevents this feeling.

It is important not to start fighting with the child if the child does not want to go to the potty, explained Melngalve.

Bozotova emphasized that it is also important not to compare children of the same family and not to shame the child if something goes wrong, because each child develops differently.
