The New York Rangers, the winner of this season’s main tournament of the National Hockey League (NHL), won the third Stanley Cup match on Friday and came one win away from the next round.
The New Yorkers beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 (2-1, 1-0, 0-0) in the third game of the quarter-finals of the Eastern Conference and reached 3-0 in the series up to four victories.
In the “Rangers” unit, Vincent Trocek stood out with the most goals and the least assist. Chris Kreider scored in equal formations, while Barkley Goodrow scored in the minority. Igor Shestjorkin managed 27 shots in the President’s Cup winner’s goal, capitulating only after John Carlson’s shot.
The Edmonton “Oilers” won 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Western Conference.
For the Edmontonians, Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist, and Zack Hyman had two accurate shots. Connor McDavid (1+2) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (0+3) finished the game with three points. McDavids is the first hockey player since 1987, who excelled with at least eight assists in the first three games.
Also, the Colorado Avalanche won 2-1 in the West, winning 6-2 (1-0, 0-2, 5-0) over the Winnipeg Jets at home. The Denverites scored five goals in the third period, with Nathan McKinnon and Valery Nichushkin scoring the majority.
