Don’s love for music was aroused by various foreign music giants – musician Brian Adams with the album “So Far So Good”, group “Queen” with albums “Greatest Hits 1” and “Greatest Hits 2”, as well as musician Elton John.

“I listened and I thought it was something phenomenal. I kept listening and discovered something new and new, and I took the neighbors with me, then copyistically we judged and analyzed the songs, collected facts,” said Don.

The other factor was the father playing the guitar when family friends visited.

“This could be what pushed me closer to it, because, well, parents are your standards, I don’t know… luminaries in life.

So I probably saw how it is that when you sing you are basically in the center of the party, you are able to evoke emotions in those around you – tears or joy. I found it fascinating and still find it fascinating,” revealed Don.

When writing songs, it is impossible to distance yourself from your own emotions. Of course, you can also sing about imaginary stories, but to a large extent it is such an autobiographical process, the musician reasoned.

“Sometimes that initial impulse for a song is perhaps a tragic story. I have one song that has this tragic event in our own country at the bottom, and after that event I called Ingu Bērzińs and said – we have to write something about this. Which song is it – I won’t reveal, because once I did it before a concert, I told the real story at the bottom, and then there were quite a lot of tears around and sadness,” said Don.

One song can turn into so many stories and versions that it is no longer one song, it can already be measured in hundreds and thousands of versions. Whether it’s good or bad – the devil knows him, the musician admitted, revealing that he himself often has moments at concerts when emotions get the better of him.

“You just get a lump in your throat and you have to wait for it to release.

There can be many reasons why this is so. The sudden thrill of seeing what’s in front of you, that it’s happening for real, that it’s not a dream, that you’re on stage in front of this crowd singing so loud and with emotion… It’s moving. It is certainly touching. No pretense, it’s really nice that you can have a unifying moment or moment like that,” Don admitted.

Emotions are what excite and inspire musicians, and perhaps that is why he doesn’t perform very often, Don revealed, so that he can tell his stories through songs with a full spectrum of emotions.

“The arena concert or this year the stadium concert is such a dream come true. Or when I was little.. Yes, I could imagine it, and I still imagine some things in the future, what could be. They are many, all kinds of things.

They may or may not come true, but if I see something and I see that it can go that far, then it will be hard to stop me,” said Don.

The musician admitted that he was lucky – for him, working on music does not seem like something difficult. Yes, it sometimes drains energy, but it also fills it up at the same time.

“I can’t complain, I can’t say that my job is physically difficult. Mentally – yes, there are challenges, how to deal with many things, but you learn that with time. About burnouts… Yes, you have to be careful, you have to dose. There have been times when you’ve pushed yourself past the limit of what you can do and then you have to stop and think a little bit because that body is fragile,” Don admitted.

He revealed that he too has had such moments when life has forced him to stop and think about everything in the future. Even now it happens that the musician has to refuse some projects.

“I understand the capacity. As much as I can take, that’s what I take. It’s just your experience when you go through it, whether you want to go back there,” Don expressed.

At the same time, the musician assessed that his character traits are the ones that do not allow him to throw the plinth in the bushes and give up, because there have been many obstacles – inferiority complexes, opinions around him, endless advisors. Don himself considered that he was lucky because he always had people around him to call and listen to a reliable opinion about both professional activities and private life. Being alone also helps.

“The finale of “Supernova” when my name was called… There were very strong emotions, and you can already see it on the camera, I didn’t keep it in anymore, I let it out, because there were no options. I remember very warm feelings, it was so warm, warm feeling. Full of love. No tears there… I don’t know how much I would have to push myself down to keep that sluice out,” revealed Don.

The musician has a lot of work at the moment, preparing for Eurovision, but he stated that he likes to work, and the team around him also helps and brings in their ideas and experience.

“I think it’s worth it. We’re going for the same goal together, we need a performance, we need to be different. Well, we’re doing everything we can. We’ll have to watch May 9, the semi-finals, then we’ll see. I hope we succeed that’s what I originally intended, because now I can’t wait anymore, and that’s where I’m pushing myself down – don’t run, take it easy. I believe that if I whatever I do will have some kind of result,” Don said.
