On Thursday, May 9, a sharper exchange of words developed between MPs Edmunds Jurēvicas (JV) and Edvardas Smiltēnas (AS), because the “United List” (AS) and the National Alliance (NA) wanted, with the decision of the Saeima, to order the government to prohibit the transport of manganese ore through Latvia to Russia, while the member of “Jaunas Vienotibas” (JV) reminded that this issue has been resolved, as it will be included in the next package of European sanctions against Russia.

Smiltēns pamatoja lēmumprojektu ar to, ka latviešu tauta rūpīgi vāc automašīnas tviterkonvojam, vāc palīdzību “Ziedot.lv”, sūta visu, ko var un mēģina palīdzēt Ukrainai, turpretī Latvijas valdība mēģina radīt priekšstatu sabiedrībai, ka tā cīnās ar mangāna rūdas piegādēm Krievijai, sakot to, ka šis jautājums tiks iekļauts ES sankcijās.

“Pa šo laiku joprojām no Krievijas oligarham Vekselbergam piederošajām raktuvēm Dienvidāfrikā caur Latvijas ostām uz metalurģijas kombinātiem Krievijā tiek piegādāti resursi – mangāna rūda, lai varētu ražot attiecīgos lādiņus, ar kuriem slaktēs ukraiņus,” sacīja Smiltēns.
