On May 8, 2024, the Latvian and Danish Foreign Ministries held consultations on strengthening multilateral cooperation in Copenhagen, Denmark. Andrejs Pildegovičs, Ambassador for Special Tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, head of the secretariat of Latvia’s candidacy to the UN Security Council, and Agnese Vilde, director of the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights, meeting with the political director of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tang Friborg, the special representative of Denmark’s candidacy to the UN Security Council, Holger Nielsen Nielsen), Director of Multilateral Cooperation Marie Louise Koch Wegter (Marie Louise Koch Wegter) and other Danish colleagues, discussed current issues of the UN agenda and agreed on close coordination in the direction of common interests.

During the consultations, much attention was paid to the exchange of experience between Latvia and Denmark regarding candidacy for the UN Security Council and the related practical aspects. The officials agreed to continue unwavering support for the rules-based international order and to actively engage in UN processes for solving global issues. The interlocutors also discussed current geopolitical challenges, especially the impact of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine on the agenda of international organizations.
