On the evening of April 30, the police officers of the Riga Municipality found on the city’s video surveillance cameras that a person was aggressively kicking flowers at the foot of the Freedom Monument and left the scene after committing the crime.

Responding promptly to the event, the law enforcement officers immediately began searching for the person. After surveying the surroundings and communicating with municipal police colleagues, information was received about the possible route of the person’s movement.

A couple of hours after the event, in the vicinity of the Central Station, the police, in cooperation with the security guards of the nearby shopping center, detained a man born in 1992 on suspicion of the committed crime.

In connection with the incident, the State Police has started criminal proceedings for hooliganism.
