On Sunday, May 12, when Mother’s Day will be celebrated this year, Riga Municipality invites you not to forget to congratulate your mothers and grandmothers by going to one of the various concerts, exhibitions or events organized by the city. The first festive concert will take place already on Saturday, May 11.
Saturday, May 11, at At 16.00, in the branch of culture and folk art center “Ritums”, Ieriķu Street 43A, in the Great Hall, the choir concert “Es savai mamiņai” will take place. The mixed choir of “Ritums” “Skaņupe” and the mixed choir of Riga Hansa High School “Saulgriäci” will take part in the concert. The program will feature original works by Latvian composers and popular Latvian pop songs.
On the other hand, on Sunday, May 12, at At 12.00 in the cultural center “Mazā gilde” there will be a drawing theater dedicated to Mother’s Day and a musical improvisation “Musical workshop”. In the show, three professional artists will improvise together with the audience. This time, the artists together with the audience will act out sweet and playful situations, centered on the mother, in honor of Mother’s Day. In parallel with the plot of the show and improvised songs, a large drawing will be made on the wall of the stage.
Painter Ingrīda Ivane, musician Aleksejs Bahirs and improviser Varis Klausitajs will take part in the event.
On the other hand, at At 12.00, the event “Puppet Animation in the World” will be held in the cultural center “Iļguciems”. As part of it, a selection of animated films from the “Animation Brigade” film studio and an exhibition with dolls of the characters appearing in the films will be shown.
Meanwhile, in the cultural center “Imanta” at At 12.00, the event “Miracles are here!” will take place. Latvian Puppet Theater actress Lienīte Osipova, dance studio “Mazais Andžiņš”, vocal ensemble “Ildzēni” and “Scientific Theater” from Laboratorium.lv will take part in it. The event will offer children and families to learn the secrets of dance, song and science in a positive atmosphere. Various stories will be conjured up and tasks will be given to the audience.
Including in the afternoon, at At 17.00, the “Mīlu Tevi!” holiday concert will be played in the “Ziemeļblāzma” palace of culture, in which the singer Ainars Bumbieris will take part with the accompanying band.
at At 17.00, the big concert of the Riga women’s choirs “Raise your head, White mother!” will be played in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia. The concert dedicated to Mother’s Day is made in honor of the mother of women’s choirs, the queen of Latvian choral music and the outstanding conductor, who has been the only woman among Latvian chief conductors for 20 years – Ausma Derkēvica.
The Riga Municipality reminds that from May 12 to June 2, we will celebrate Family Month in Riga, so everyone is welcome to enjoy the prepared Family Month cultural program, which will include concerts, performances, film screenings, interesting workshops and a series of other activities.
