on May 18 at At 16.00, the opening concert of the international sacred music festival of Ventspils region “From baroque to today” will begin in the Puze church, where the six register organ built by Karl Hermanis in 1852 will play.

This instrument is a wonderful example of 19th century organ construction with a classic sound, which adds a little “pepper” to the unique organ landscape of the Ventspils region.

Since the beginning of the festival, the organizers have been cooperating with the Ventspils Music High School, so this year also the teachers of the Ventspils Music High School Ilze Reine, Gidons Grīnbergs and Rihards Strauss, as well as the students of the organ class Loreta Gūtšmite, Agnese Stepānova, Klāvs Berks and the string ensemble have prepared a repertoire especially suitable for the Puze church organ . A. Corelli, J. Pieces by Frescobaldi, JS Bach, GF Handel and other composers.

This year, the sacred music festival “From baroque to today” will feature many pieces by Ukrainian composers, organist Nadja Veličko from Lviv will play music, and new concert venues are coming – Puze and Pilten church. Despite many changes in the world, the principle of creating festival concert programs remains unchanged – the repertoire is stylistically appropriate for the instruments, which in general introduce the listeners to the music of different eras.

On July 5, soprano Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine, Ieva Nīmane – baroque oboe, recorder, Māra Botmane – baroque cello will sing the Piltene church, but Ilze Reine will be on hand. The program includes arias and instrumental fragments from JS Bach’s cantatas.

On July 21, an organist from Slovenia – Dalibors Miklavčić will sit at the organ of the Ugāle church. He is a very versatile musician who performs a lot, works as a teacher and researcher of music history, gives concerts in many countries of the world, leads master classes, is a member of the jury commissions of several international competitions. In the concert, alongside the masterpieces of baroque organ music, the compositions of lesser-known Slovenian composers of the baroque era will sound, and there will also be a surprise.

On August 3, the organist Līga İvāne and the owner of a charming voice Katrīna Paula Felsberg will play in the Zlēki Church. The romantic atmosphere of the concert will be emphasized by Fr. Schubert’s songs, A. Ritter’s sonata for organ and rarely performed music of the first Latvian organ virtuoso Ādam Ores.

On August 16, Ukrainian organist Nadja Velichko from Lviv will perform in the Ugale church. The concert will feature both baroque music by Western European composers and compositions by Ukrainian authors.

On September 14, the festival will end at Pope’s Church, where two Cēsi musicians will lead the audience into the world of sound: organist Lelde Krastiņa and cellist Ilze Petrovska. The music of the 20th and 21st centuries will be played at the concert, where the place of honor will be given to the compositions of Latvian and Ukrainian composers.
