For the 24th time in a row, Ventspils will host the contest “City Decoration 2024”, a favorite of gardeners, in which everyone who owns the territory of an individual residential house and garden, who wants to show others the fruits of their labor – a green and blooming corner of paradise created with love and hard work, is invited to participate. .
The city of Ventspils is often called the flower capital of Latvia. We have created the city to be seen as blooming and bright, and everyone who comes to Ventspils in the spring, summer and autumn months can enjoy hundreds of gorgeous flower arrangements throughout the city. With the help of the competition “City decoration 2024”, we want to show that not only the city is blooming and tidy, but also the residents of Ventspils have invested a lot of work in creating gardens and outdoor spaces, thus complementing the tidy city landscape.
We invite the owners of the beautiful gardens of Ventspils to apply for the competition and show their beautiful gardens, as it serves as a source of inspiration for others who are still looking for ideas or motivation to create their own garden. Application for the competition will take place from June 3, 2024 to June 28, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
We invite all interested owners (managers) of individual residential gardens and territories to register for participation in the competition:

• Electronically – by sending the application to e-mail [email protected];
• Sending the application by mail (Užavas iela 8, Ventspils, LV-3601);
• By filling out the application form online on the municipality’s official website – www.ventspils.lv.
The prize fund of the competition “City decoration 2024” is 750 EUR and 1st-3rd place winners will receive gift cards:
• 1st place – 350 EUR;
• 2nd place – 250 EUR;
• 3rd place – 150 EUR.
The winner of the “Audience sympathy” nomination will receive a ticket for two people to a professional experience exchange trip and a surprise prize.
As every year, after the winners of the competition have been determined, the Ventspils Communal Authority will organize a professional experience exchange trip in which the participants of “City Rota 2024” will be able to participate. During the tour, you will be able to improve your gardening skills by looking at the green and flowering oases created by other garden owners and listening to their stories and recommendations. As part of the excursion, various nurseries will also be visited, where it will be possible to purchase plant varieties created by breeders for your garden.
Road signs for this journey will be obtained by:
• Participants of the second round of the “Individual residential house garden – “City decoration 2024″” nomination (two persons from one property);
• Winner of the “Audience Sympathy” nomination.
• Owners or possessors of the cleanest properties in the “Skats no malas” nomination (one person from the property);
The time and place of the trip will be announced separately on the official website of the municipality www.ventspils.lv and in the newspaper Voice of Venta.
In the nomination “Individual residential house garden – “City ornament 2024″” – the competition jury will evaluate the territories of individual residential houses in the period from July 15, 2024 to July 26, 2024, surveying the objects on site in nature.
In the nomination “Viewers’ sympathy” – the objects of the competition, which the jury of the competition has nominated for evaluation in the second round, participate. From July 15, 2024 to July 26, 2024, a citizens’ vote will be held on the municipality’s official website – www.ventspils.lv, after which one winner will be determined (the one with the most votes).
In the nomination “View from the side” – the evaluation of individual residential areas will take place in the period from June 3, 2024 to July 12, 2024.
The results of the competition – the addresses of the cleanest properties and the winners will be announced by August 4, 2024, by publishing information on the municipality’s official website www.ventspils.lv. Contest winners will also be notified personally of the contest results. The prizes will be presented during the Ventspils city festivities.
