The vote for ZVC in the Jelgava County Council marks a new coalition – ZZ.lv

At the April 24 meeting of the Jelgava County Council, the vote of deputies on the issue of canceling the sale of SIA “Zemgales Health Center” (ZVC) has marked new cooperation partners, but it can hardly be said that a new coalition has been formed in the Council. However, it is obvious that on April 24, ten members of the city council were able to agree on a common opinion on the issue of ZVC – Uldis Ainārs, Artūrs Semjonovs (“New Unity”), Madars Lasmanis, Emīls Dobrājs (“For the Development of Latvia”), Oskars Cīrulis (National Union ), Jānis Kažotnieks, Ęirts Neija, Andris Ozoliņš (Green Party), Pēteris Veļeckis and Jānis Počs (Latvian Farmers’ Union) and Irina Dolgova (“Skaņa”).

There is no word yet on the new chairman

For now, it is not clear whether this coalition could also nominate and approve a new chairman of the Jelgava County Council. The law requires that one be elected within two months of the resignation of the previous council chairman, which took place on April 3. Previously, E. Dobrājs was named as one of the candidates for the post of chairman. For his election, at least ten votes would be needed, and such were marked in the April 24 vote.

It is interesting that MP D. Liepiņš (Association of Regions of Latvia), who on April 24 voted “against” the issue of not selling ZVC, in a conversation with “Zinău” expressed a very similar sentiment to that expressed by those deputies who voted “for”. The differences are only in the nuances. D. Liepiņš believes that first the operation of ZVC should be evaluated and only then should the issue of its sale or non-sale be addressed. D. Liepiņa is also not satisfied with the fact that the ZVC, which has been owned by the municipality for twenty years and successfully developed under concession, has not brought any income to the municipality. He has researched that ZVC’s legal services are provided by Dzintars Lagzdiņš and Aldis Jēgers, who probably also provided them for many years to the Jelgava County Council. Dzintars Cāzers, who used to manage the Jelgava region municipal company “Jelgavas novada KU”, still provides the services of ZVC’s accountant. It can be concluded from this that previously the Jelgava regional government lacked the political will to revise the strange concession agreement. D. Liepiņš would support Ilzi Vītola (Latvian Farmers’ Union), who was the deputy of M. Lasmanis, and thus now performs the duties of the council chairman, in the question of the new chairman of the Jelgava County Council. However, as the April 24 vote on ZVC shows, the “peasants” have found themselves in opposition with the Union of Latvian Regions.

Describing the current situation in the municipality of Jelgava region, J. Kažotnieks, a member of the Green Party, says that a power crisis has emerged. Namely, the executive power, led by executive director Līga Lonerte, is not focused on cooperation with the Green Party, “Jaunās Vienotības”, “Latvijas vērātības” and MPs P. Veļecki and J. Poča, who left the “peasants”. On the contrary, the executive director has big disagreements with MP M. Lasmani. “I would support Andri Ozoliņas as the chairman of the City Council, if only he would take it under the circumstances,” states J. Kažotnieks. A. Ozoliņš was the chairman of the Ozolnieki County Council for more than a year, and at that time he replaced D. Liepiņa in this position, who had lost the trust of the majority of deputies.
