The Grobiņa holiday program will combine four different events: the international amateur theater festival “Crane Games”, the motorcycle festival “Seeburg Bikerland”, the day of retro vehicles, which will be held for the first time in Grobiņa, and the Grobiņa city festival with various events over three days in different locations.
This year, the festivities will start a day earlier – already on May 23, when there will be an opportunity to hear the outstanding actors Emīlas Zilberts and Imantas Stradas, who will perform the poetry program “Call it theater” with the poetry of Māras Zālīte and the music of Uldas Stabulnieks in the Grobiņa city library.
It is not for nothing that the actors will sing the holiday, because during it the International amateur theater festival “Crane Games” will take place, which is being held for the first time in the Kurzeme region.
“In view of this important event, the motto of the opening procession on the evening of Friday, May 24, is ‘Life as theater, theater as life.’ We invite companies, institutions, associations and societies, as well as residents, to participate and creatively express themselves by joining together in the families of friends and relatives, thus making the festive procession more lively,” says Gunta Gruntiņa, the organizer of cultural events in the city of Grobiņa.
After the procession in the castle ruins, there will be opening speeches and a concert by the band “bet, bet”. At the end of the evening, a musical performance with elements of a fire show is expected, and for the bravest, a night orientation around the city.
The morning of Saturday, May 25, as usual, will start with the big holiday market, where artisans and homemakers from South Kurzeme and other regions of Latvia will offer their products.
During the day, the castle ruins will host the show “Vella kalpi” performed by the Priekulniks and the children’s show “Star on Earth” performed by guests from Saldus.
Also, there will be a dance concert on the stage of the castle ruins with Grobiņa’s JDK “Spararats” and their dance friends.
Children will be able to enjoy their favorite inflatable attractions and other activities during the day.
Streetball will also take place on the square near the church, the public safety, protection and rescue services will provide an insight into the daily work and information about the profession, while the most agile young people will be identified at the Firefighters’ Sports Festival, which will be waiting for visitors at the stadium this year.
On the other hand, the 2nd-3rd rounds of the Latvian championship trial will take place on the Grobiņa trial track. stage, but in the stadium – a trial demonstration show.
During the holidays, for the first time in the city stadium, there will be a unique event “Retro Vehicle Day”, during which it will be possible not only to see the retro-style vehicles that have passed by, but also various activities will take place for both children and adults.
An integral tradition of Grobina and a big part of the festivities is the “Seeburg Bikerland” motorcycle festival. Also this year, motorcycle enthusiasts will gather during the festival to allow the guests of the festival to get acquainted with the loud motorized vehicles.
At the end of the festival, there will be a concert by the band “Refleksija”.
The biggest event of the city’s festivities is the concert of the band “Lővőligais tipis”, but after the concert the festivities will continue in the castle ruins at a ball together with the band “Laika upe”.
On Sunday, May 26, the celebration will end with a concert by the students of the Grobiņas Music and Art School at Grobiņas ev. lut. church.
