In the past 24 hours, Lithuanian border guards have not discovered a single case of migrants illegally trying to enter Lithuania from Belarus, the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania announced on Monday.
It was the fourth day in a row that no attempts to illegally enter Lithuania from the Belarusian border have been detected.
This year, a total of 185 attempts to illegally enter Lithuania were prevented on the border of Belarus.
From August 3, 2021, when, according to the order of the Minister of the Interior, Agnes Bilotaites, the border guards began to force illegal immigrants to go back, they were prevented from crossing the border in unauthorized places more than 22,000 times. From the beginning of 2021 until this order, about 4,200 illegal migrants were detained in Lithuania, while in 2022, in total, border guards denied illegal migrants entry to Lithuania more than 11,200 times. In 2023, it happened 2643 times.
Lithuanian officials point out that the Belarusian regime deliberately encourages the flow of migrants across the border of the two countries, as Lithuania supports the democratic opposition of Belarus.
