From April 11 to September 29, 2024, the photo exhibition “Soviet Occupation Heritage in Karosta” can be viewed in the exhibition hall of the Liepāja Museum branch “Liepājas Occupation Museum” at K. Ukstiņa Street 7/9. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Liepāja Special Economic Zone (SEZ), it tells about the devastation and consequences of the legacy left by the former Soviet Union’s Baltic Fleet on the Karosta infrastructure, the pollution of the port and territorial waters, and the beginning of restoration.

In the nineties of the last century, the most untidy part of Liepāja was Karosta. Today, Karosta has turned from a closed military town into an attractive place for residents and tourists, where units of the National Armed Forces, companies and various recreational, cultural and tourist facilities live nearby.
