Today, April 25, in the second reading, the Saeima will consider the amendments prepared by the Ministry of Climate and Energy (KEM) to the draft law “Energy Law”. These amendments were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers (MK) this year. in the middle of January. With the amendments, Latvia takes over the requirements of the European Union directive, with which we develop the national regulation in order to promote security of supply, streamline administrative processes, and promote the production of thermal energy from efficient and price-friendly sources.

Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis: “Households will be able to continue using pellets, briquettes and firewood (biomass fuel) for heating purposes in their homes. The proposals prepared by the Ministry give a choice in renovated houses or new buildings – for heating, use biomass (pellets, briquettes, firewood) or emission-free technologies – solar collectors and panels, heat pumps. The essence of the amendments to the bills is to ensure cleaner and environmentally friendly fuel use, for example by replacing coal, thus improving air quality in cities and reducing costs for residents in the long term.”

The green course gives us the opportunity to use efficient heating systems, which are more environmentally friendly technologies, the use of which not only allows us to live in a clean and tidy environment, but also saves costs. At present, more than 11 thousand have already been installed in Latvia with state support. various environmentally friendly technologies – biomass boilers suitable for pellet fuel, heat pumps, solar collectors with storage tank, etc.
