Freedom relays are a great opportunity for physical activity together with family, friends, colleagues, as well as a good way to promote local patriotism and show that our hearts belong to our Latvia. The relays will take place on May 4 at 1:00 p.m., gathering at Duke Jacob’s Square from 12:00 p.m.
The distance will lead along the Great Street, and its total length is about 1.4 kilometers. The start and finish will be at the intersection of Uzvaras and Lielas streets, the turn – at the intersection of Pēteras and Lielas streets. Relay stages (along Lielo iela): Uzvaras iela–Katoļu iela, Katoļu iela–Pasta iela, Pasta iela–Mātera iela, Mātera iela–Pētera iela, Pētera iela–Mātera iela, Mātera iela–Pasta iela, Pasta iela–Katoļi iela, Katoliu iela–Uzvaras iela.
Traffic restrictions must be taken into account during the run. Traffic will be closed from 12:50 p.m. to 2:00 p.m
- In Liela Street from Pulkvež Oskars Kalpak Street to Akademiye Street,
- Pulkveža Brieža Street from Krišjāņa Barona Street to Lielajai Street,
- on Pētera Street from Lielas Street to Svētes Street,
- On Mātera Street from Krišjāņa Barona Street to Lielajai Street.
Also, during this time, residents are prohibited from parking vehicles on the sides of Liela Street. During the run, bus stops “Centrs” and “Mātera uz Lielas” on Lielaja Street will also be closed in both directions. City buses will go around the closed section of the street on detours.
Jelgava school teams and other interested people in the general group participate in the freedom relays. Jelgava educational institution teams will compete in the following groups: 4th and 5th grade mixed teams (four girls and four boys), 6th and 7th grade girls and boys (each team has eight participants), 8th and 9th grade girls and boys ( eight members in each team), 10.-12. young girls and boys of classes (eight participants in each team). Anyone can compete in the general group (groups of friends, work teams, etc.), making up a team of eight members, of which at least two are women. Participants of the general group must send their previous applications by May 2 at 17:00 via e-mail [email protected].
The winning teams of the relay races in each group will be awarded with medals, diplomas and prizes.
The competition is organized by the Jelgava municipal institution “Sporta servis centrs”.
