An expert assesses the possibility of terrorist risks during the Olympic Games: All special services are now having sleepless nights

The thing about terrorism is that it’s kind of a guessing game. At least when talking about countries like Iran, Russia, North Korea, when there are any public announcements. Then there are significantly fewer terrorist organizations, apart from a couple of propaganda slogans like “Let’s destroy the West!” and they don’t say much. This is how the researcher describes the security situation.

Külis admits that there could be some outbreaks during the Olympic Games this year, yes,

“Also in Russia, the attack on the Crocus City shopping center is extremely interesting and raises questions, whether it was really an attack by a branch of the Islamic State or not; how much they were allowed, how much they were not allowed express yourself – there are more questions than answers,” admits Kūlis.

But there is an answer that is extremely simple, says the researcher: “You don’t have to invent two wheels. Well, of course, the risks of terrorism exist in any major event, especially in the big countries of Europe, which have been hostile to many.”

As a positive aspect, the researcher mentions the fact that the resources of various aggressive groups and organizations are currently depleted due to internal problems, which they have quite a lot of.

For example, for the “Islamic State” from its ideological position, the priority has always been the internal enemy, the local authorities – this is the good news.

However, of course, that the special services of France and all other countries are now having sleepless nights, there is no doubt about it at all, admits Kūlis.
