PVD informs that, upon checking the received complaint about possible violations of animal welfare requirements, the service removed 34 dogs of various ages, including puppies, from the property in Saulkrasti, because the inspection found that uncontrolled breeding of animals is taking place on the property, animals are kept in unsanitary conditions and they are not provided with proper food and drinking water.

The representatives of the service explain that when the inspectors arrived, the owner of the animals claimed that there were six adult dogs on the property and presented their passports.

Continuing the inspection, it was found that more than 20 dogs were staying on the second floor of the house, among various garbage, in unsanitary conditions, and the puppies were hidden in bags.

Upon opening the zippers of the bags, inspectors found at least two puppies in each, which had already begun to lack oxygen after being trapped in the bags.

During the inspection, only four dogs were microchipped, six dogs had passports and only two dogs had valid rabies vaccinations that were about to expire.

A parrot was also kept in equally unsanitary conditions on the second floor of the house.

PVD has started an administrative violation process for the detected violations.

PVD is a state administrative institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, which carries out state supervision and control of the food circulation and veterinary medicine industry.
