The General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense has begun preparing for exercises on the instructions of Vladimir Putin to “increase the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to carry out combat missions,” the department reports.

In the exercises, the Ministry of Defense plans to develop the issues of “preparation and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons” (also called tactical) in order to “unconditionally ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state in response to provocative actions, statements and threats by certain Western officials” against Russia.

Training will take place “soon”. Missile formations of the Southern Military District with aviation, as well as the Navy will take part in them. The location of the training has not been announced.
