In May, the anniversary marathon of the People’s Theater “Iskatel” will take place

--

In May of this year, the Daugavpils People’s Theater “Iskatel” will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a unique marathon: on Tuesdays, May 7, 14 and 21, at 18.00 theater performances will be held in the Palace of Culture (Smilšu Street 92).

The first performance, which will be seen on May 7, is “Babble of Babel” (based on the play by John Lazarus). This show has already been in the “Iskatel” repertoire, only then the main roles were played by men, but now – women. The second performance “The Woman in Black” (based on the play by Stephen Mallatrat and the novel by Susan Hill) will take place on May 14. On the other hand, the third performance “How grandmothers wanted to get married” (based on Florida Bulyakov’s play) is a renewed version of the show created by former “Iskatel” manager Yuri Losev. It will be shown on May 21. But after the show there will be a tribute to the “Iskatel” collective.
Admission to all events is free, and please note that all events will be photographed and filmed for publicity and historical purposes.

People’s Theater “Iskatel” is the oldest of the artistic collectives of Daugavpils, as well as the only Russian theater in Latvia, which was granted the status of People’s Theater in 1976. It was founded in 1964 as a youth dramatic collective. Throughout its existence, the members of the theater have staged several performances of various genres, which have won the recognition of both the audience and professionals.
When creating performances, the members of the “Iskatel” theater often break traditional boundaries, showing their productions outside the usual premises. Currently, the People’s Theater “Iskateļ” is the only People’s Theater in Latvia, whose productions are created in Russian and are well received in various international level theater festivals and competitions.
Many actors have been playing here for a very long time: Vladimir Matveyev – already 50 years in the theater; more than 50 years – Stalin Ceceruk; Alla Terekhova – 38 years old (since 1986) and Sofia Lasovsky has been playing in the folk theater for more than 35 years! But “Iskatel” is also rich in young actors and they are united by the desire to know themselves and please the audience. The collective is still in search and they promise the theater a long, successful and creative life.
