In April, the planned flushing of water pipes in Ķipsala, Zaķusala and Skanste already started, but this week the works will start in the central part of the capital – Old Town, Brasa, Grīziņkaln, Avotos, Lastadija and elsewhere. Since there are a number of facilities in these neighborhoods that need to ensure the continuity of water supply during the day, flushing will mostly take place during the night hours and in smaller stages.
During the works, temporary water supply interruptions and water clouding are possible after the water supply is restored, there may be an increased noise level, possible changes in traffic organization and other inconveniences.
The water pipe flushing season is scheduled to end in October.
Over time, salts and other minerals, which are naturally contained in water, are deposited on the pipelines, but due to pressure changes, their separation and entry into the water supply system is possible. When flushing, water pipes are cleaned of deposits. Both during and after rinsing, the water is completely safe to use and is not harmful to health, explained the company.
The company stated that in order to maintain a consistently high quality of drinking water, water pipes are flushed regularly. In recent years, such works have already been carried out in almost the entire territory of Riga: Jugla, Mežciem, Pļavnieki, Purvciem, Teika and Dārzciem (in 2017), Vecāki, Vecdaugava, Vecmīlgrāvi, Mīlgrāvi and Čiekurkaln (2018), Sarkandaugava, Mežapark, Ķengarag and Iļguciem ( 2019), in Imanta, Dzirciem, Zolitude, Zasulauk and Šampēteri (2020), Ågenskaln, Torņakaln and Pleskodal (2021), Mežciem, Dreiliņi and Brekši (2022), Salas, Bieriņi, Atgazene, Ziepniekaln, Bišumuiž and Bolderāi (2023).
