In order for producers of fishing and aquaculture products and fishing or aquaculture processing companies to activate the production and trade of food products, the government on Tuesday, May 7, adopted the amendments prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture to the procedure for granting state and European Union support in the event “Trade promotion measures”, providing for financial support for fish farmers , who are involved in food quality schemes.

The aid payment is granted according to the quantity of production and the aid rates are calculated to cover the initial cost of participation in the food quality scheme, the annual investment for participation in the food quality scheme1 and the costs of the inspections necessary to verify compliance with the requirements of the food quality scheme.

The aid amounts are as follows:

  • in the scheme of protected geographical indications and protected designations of origin or guaranteed traditional characteristics is 590 euros,
  • in the national food quality scheme – from 250 to 400 euros,
  • for producers of fishing and aquaculture processing products involved in the food chain in the scheme of organic food quality, protected geographical indications and protected designations of origin or guaranteed traditional characteristics – from 430 to 7150 euro,
  • in the national food quality scheme – from 420 to 5400 euros.

Support for the event is provided for in the Fisheries Development Program 2021-2027. (PZA) from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).

Regulations “Amendments to the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of October 10, 2023 No. 578 “State and European Union aid granting procedure in the event “Trade promotion measures”” shall enter into force on the day following their publication in the official publication “Latvian Journal”.
