405 swimmers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Great Britain and Poland competed in the 99th Latvian Open Swimming Championship. JSPS was represented at the championship by 37 swimmers who simultaneously competed in the open and national evaluations, winning 15 medals on a Latvian scale.

Three Latvian championship titles were won by Nikolas Deičmans, who showed a result of 4:33.68 minutes in the 400-meter medley, 2:05.18 minutes in the 200-meter medley, which is a new Latvian junior record, while in the 200-meter backstroke with a result of 2: 02.34 minutes, Nikolas broke his own Latvian national record. Elijs Aleksejevs won two titles of Latvian champion: 100 meters butterfly with a result of 56.18 seconds and 200 meters butterfly with a result of 2:06.46 minutes, which is a new Latvian junior record. Kristians Brenčs became the Latvian champion in the 50-meter backstroke with a result of 26.33 seconds, while in the 100-meter backstroke with a result of 57.34 seconds he won the Latvian vice-champion title. Kristīne Zinoviča became the Latvian champion in 50 meters backstroke with a result of 30.26 seconds.

Matīss Kaktiņš won the 3rd place in the 200-meter breaststroke with a result of 2:23.95 minutes in the open evaluation, which gave him the honor of vice-champion in the national evaluation. Richard Gríslis won the bronze medal in the 400-meter medley with a time of 5:24.62 minutes in the national evaluation.

The JSPS women’s team won two bronze medals in the relays. In the 4×100 meter freestyle relay, Renāte Artamonova, Kristine Zinoviča, Anna Geraseva and Anastasija Fortele finished in 4:13.87 minutes, while in the 4×100 meter combined relay Renāte Artamonova, Kristine Zinoviča, Anna Geraseva and Una Miller finished in 4:40 .98 minutes. On the other hand, the JSPS men’s team won three gold medals and Latvian champion titles in the relays. In the 4×100 meter freestyle relay, Krišjānis Rozenbilds, Elijs Aleksejevs, Kristians Branch and Nicholas Deichmans finished with a result of 3:32.80 minutes. In the 4×200 meter freestyle relay, Jaroslavs Orbidāns, Rūdis Sondors, Elijs Aleksejevs and Nicholas Deichmans finished with a time of 8:07.50 minutes. In the 4×100 meter combined relay, Kristians Branch, Matīss Kaktiņš, Elijs Aleksejevs and Nicholas Deichmans finished with a time of 3:50.89 minutes.

“Kristīne Zinoviča met the standard of the Latvian U-16 team in the 100-meter backstroke with a result of 1:06.47 minutes, while Elijs Aleksejevs met the standard of the Latvian U-18 team in the 100-meter butterfly with a result of 56.16 seconds. Also, in the competition, Evelina Strautiņa, a student of coach Egija Kravtsova, for the first time fulfilled the norm of the second sport class in 50 meters backstroke, and Kims Krauklis, a student of coach Astras Ozoliņa, fulfilled the norm of the first sport class in 50 meters butterfly,” adds JSPS deputy director Aldis Trukšāns.

In the Ķīpsala swimming pool, the Latvian open swimming championship for old masters and folk class was also held, in which representatives of Jelgava old masters swimming club “Mitauswim” took part, winning 23 medals.

Nauris Pundors won 1st place in group D (40-44 years) in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 30.64 seconds and set the Latvian old masters’ record in this age group. Also in 100 meters breaststroke, he took 1st place in group D (40-44 years) with a result of 1:10.31 minutes and a record of old masters. Oleg Jagovdik won 1st place in group D (40-44 years) in 100 meters freestyle with a result of 1:01.27 minutes and 2nd place in 50 meters breaststroke in group D (40-44 years) with a result of 32.49 seconds and 100 meters breaststroke in group D (40-44 years) with a result of 1:14.12 minutes. Mihails Shohats won 1st place in group D (40-44 years) in 50 meters butterfly with a result of 31.52 seconds and 3rd place in group D (40-44 years) in 100 meters breaststroke with a result of 1:17.92 minutes. Dmitrijs Pupkovs won three 1st places in group C (35-39 years): 50-meter breaststroke with a result of 31.48 seconds, 100-meter breaststroke with a result of 1:09.67 minutes and 200-meter breaststroke with a result of 2:37.15 minutes. Zane Reinhold won two 1st places in Group A (25-29 years): 50m backstroke with a result of 32.10 seconds, which is a new old masters record, and 50m butterfly with a result of 31.19 seconds. Katrína Dudas won 1st place in group D (40-44 years) and set a new old masters record in 50 meters freestyle with a result of 30.36 seconds. Mārite Garbene won three 1st places in group J (70-74 years): 50-meter breaststroke with a result of 1:24.20 minutes, 100-meter backstroke with a result of 2:35.99 minutes and 100-meter freestyle with a result of 2:33 ,34 minutes. Viktors Valainis won 1st place in group L (80-84 years) and set a new old masters’ record in 50 meters backstroke with a result of 1:01.38 minutes. For Ivan Bergman, two 1st places in group J (70-74 years) – 200 meters freestyle with a result of 4:10.96 minutes and 100 meters butterfly with a result of 2:21.75 minutes, which is a new record for old masters, – and 2nd. place in group J (70-74 years) in 50 meters freestyle with a result of 38.55 seconds. Inga Gedrovica won 2nd place in group F (50-54 years) in 100 meters freestyle with a result of 1:22.83 minutes.

The swimmers of the “Mitauswim” club also won two 1st places and a record in the B age group (120-159) in relay swimming. Nauris Pundors, Oleg Jagovdik, Zane Reinholde and Katrīna Dudas finished in 2:07.87 minutes in the 4×50 meter combined MIX relay, while in the 4×50 meter freestyle MIX relay Nauris Pundors, Dmitrijs Pupkovs, Zane Reinholde and Katrīna Dudas finished in 1 :53.02 minutes.

“The top 10 swimmers (with Masters licenses) were also awarded, determined by adding up the points obtained in the two distances. Four swimmers from our club entered the top 10,” says Nauris Pundors, the representative of the “Mitauswim” club, who has the 1st place overall in the sum of two distances (50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke – 1573 points). Dmitry Pupkov has 3rd place overall (100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter breaststroke – 1429 points), Oleg Jagovdik – 8th place (50 meter breaststroke and 100 meter breaststroke – 1330 points), Zane Reinhold – 10th place (50 meter backstroke and 50 meters freestyle – 1291 points).
