In honor of Latvia’s 20th anniversary in the European Union, on Thursday, May 9 – Europe Day – a European picnic will be held in front of the Saeima House.
During the event, everyone interested is invited to celebrate the holiday together in an informal atmosphere, talk with other participants and get acquainted with the vast European culinary heritage, enjoying the national dishes and holiday cake prepared by the embassies of the European Union member states and candidate countries.
The Europe Day picnic will be opened by the Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa and the Chairman of the European Affairs Commission Edmunds Cepurītis.
As part of the picnic, everyone interested is invited to play the erudition game “I and the EU” and test their knowledge of European Union issues. It will be possible to participate in the game using your smartphone, and the top three participants will receive promotional prizes. Two rounds of the erudition game are scheduled to take place.
The event will take place from 12:45 to 15:00 in front of the Saeima building at Jēkaba street 11, Riga. The first play of the erudition game “Me and ES” is scheduled for 13.10, while the second play is scheduled for 14.10.
The venue of the European picnic will also be one of the five checkpoints in the “SEE EUROPE” orienteering game. Other checkpoints will be located in Riga State 1st Gymnasium, Riga State 2nd Gymnasium, Riga State 3rd Gymnasium and the European Union House, and each of them will have to complete a certain task. Participants will be able to start the orienteering game at any of the checkpoints.
