The President calls for work on practical measures that would promote business in the regions of Latvia

On March 28, State President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Minister of Economy Viktoras Valaini in the Riga Palace. During the meeting, the planning of Latvia’s economic development, export and investment attraction measures and the work of the Ministry of Economy so far, aimed at balanced economic development of all regions of Latvia, were discussed.

The President listened to the minister’s vision of Latvia’s economic development plan and called for work both on a conceptual document and on very practical and quickly implemented measures that would promote opportunities for Latvian entrepreneurs in export markets and attract investment to Latvia’s regions.

The President and the Minister of Economy discussed the situation in the municipalities of the eastern border and Latgale. The President drew attention to the questions of businessmen and investors, which are asked during the President’s regional working visits, for example, both in talks with the leaders of Latgale municipalities and businessmen, and this year on March 22 during a recent working visit to Saldus district. “Latvian businessmen and potential investors expect practical and concrete things from municipalities or state institutions, therefore it is important to develop a specific range of offers that Latvia and its regions can offer for business development,” said E. Rinkēvičs.

The Minister of Economy expressed his vision of the necessary improvements in the strategy of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia in the work of promoting exports and attracting foreign investments. The parties also discussed the cooperation of the State Competitiveness Commission established by the President with the Ministry of Economy.
