Mikhail Chekhov’s Riga Russian Theater, which this season purposefully implements the announced seasonal narrative about the influence of power and the theme of societal division, continuing to invite the public to talk, responded to the idea of the Baltic Investigative Journalism Center “Re:Baltica” to create a non-standard performance. After the performance, the audience is given the opportunity to ask questions to the actors of the performance, promoting a dialogue about the issues raised in the performance.

Dana Bjork, head of the Chekhov Theater, states: “The conditions of today’s reality demand an open dialogue between people. Dialogue about painful and important things. I believe that through real life stories it is possible to hear the other, taking care of a united Latvian society and our common future.

I am proud that there are people among us who are brave enough to share their experiences publicly, revealing to many that they are not alone in these feelings.

I would very much like the show’s most vivid quote to become a part of our society’s consciousness: “In the beginning there is a person, and then the nationality.”

On the other hand, the question that the participants of this show try to answer together with the audience is similar to the one that the creators of the series asked their characters: what is better – a pleasant hatred or an unpleasant conversation? Tickets for the show “Skëlšanas” can be purchased in advance at “Bilešu paradīze” ticket offices and on the web.
