Wedding dress trends

Every year, the podiums of the fashion capitals are conquered by luxurious lace, finely shimmering silk, corsets and jacquard skirts that slide on the ground – different designers thus reveal their view of the future fashion of wedding dresses. Although the designs vary, the bride’s goal is to impress everyone on her special day. As the dress designer Rimante Rimgailaite, who spoke to “Ellips Latvija”, emphasizes, at a time when the image is no longer divided by age, brides should not limit their imagination, but boldly experiment with fabrics, silhouettes and accessories.

There is no age limit for the character

“A wedding dress, like Cinderella’s godmother’s magic wand, can turn any woman into a princess in an instant, all you have to do is choose the dress that suits you. Some more homework needs to be done: you need to formulate what will be the theme of the wedding, the environment of the celebration, the location and the scenario, and accordingly you need to choose a dress sample from countless photos that can be found on the Internet. Then you have to decide whether you should sew, rent or buy this one dress.

Of course, everything depends on how much time is left until the wedding: if you have decided to be unique on your wedding day and want to sew a dress with a designer, you should book a place 6-8 months before the celebration. It may seem like a lot, but it will make room for the designer’s schedule, which is usually packed during wedding season, and reduce stress levels for both you and your team. After all, it usually takes 3-4 months until the dress or suit is returned to the new couple, so one of the most important attributes of the holiday should not be left for the last night,” advises the costume designer.

According to her, the main rule that brides-to-be should follow is that it is important to consult with professionals, because few people have a developed sense of style and the ability to independently create a harmonious image. By trying on several dresses of different silhouettes in the presence of a stylist or designer, you can definitely find the only one in which the bride will feel not only comfortable, but also the most beautiful.

“However, in all this commotion, the groom should not be forgotten – his image is as important as his chosen bride. The groom’s suit is recommended to be sewn by the same designer entrusted with making the dress, because he will be best able to create a unified style for the couple – not only the shades of the dress and suit, but also their fabrics and style should match.

I also recommend that you relax and not restrict yourself in imaginary frames. My practice shows that girls/women are still shy and rarely experiment with their image, but even a classic dress model can be adjusted to look modern and highlight the bride. Of course, young girls are more likely to opt for more open-cut gowns that fit the body, while older women prefer to cover up the body, but often things turn upside down when a professional tailors what suits the bride’s body proportions and personality. Age should definitely not be a limit, because the character has no age limit,” R. Rimgailaite urges to be braver.

What wedding dresses will dominate this year?

Dress makers all over the world agree that this year’s wedding dress trends can be summed up in one word – “details”. In other words, all attention is paid to one particular selected detail. It can be luxurious lace, soft pink fabric, royal luxurious jacquard texture, luxurious miniskirt or extravagant corset – something that will highlight the character of the bride and help create the desired image.

“What wedding dress trends are hot this year? As with everyday fashion, such a phenomenon as “wedding trends” completely disappears – the best trend is no trend at all. The key is the new couple’s exclusive style, clothing and details tailored to their personalities and best reflecting them. Speaking of what is now in fashion with us, I would highlight two radically opposite trends – this is minimalism and maximalism.

Although we believe that we are a brave country, there are many modest people, therefore, a part of women and girls also want to feel cozy and comfortable on their holiday, so they choose safe classic, minimalist dress models, subtle, barely noticeable makeup and classic hairstyle. Another part of brides want to show their love to the whole world and be the center of attention on their wedding day, so they choose an exquisite wedding dress design, shiny shoes and bright evening makeup. In this case, a stylist or designer who can recommend and maintain a tasteful image, as well as a sense of moderation will be very useful – control the desire to pile on everything “what I like”, because you may regret it later,” designer R. Rimgailaite advises how not to spoil your wedding photos.

In her opinion, this year you can take the following characters from the pedestals for your celebration.

Although lace has been one of the main wedding decorations for many years, this year the usual “boho” takes on a luxurious, rather than old-fashioned, pattern flavor – the lace that decorates the wedding dress is more modern and delicately shiny.

As couples opt for grand weddings instead of minimalist ceremonies, more brides this year will be donning a dress that will become the centerpiece of the day – the eighties slip dress is back!

The classic corset is back, but with a modern twist – modern draping techniques, a dropped waistline and innovative fabric laser cutting options. This synthesis creates a stunning image and offers brides a sophisticated way to highlight their silhouette.

Style experts agree that this year, the number of brides who will choose a pink or other pastel dress instead of a traditional white dress will increase.

To stand out among the “princess” dresses, brides will go in the opposite direction – they will choose minimalist dresses with a straight cut and flawless design.

It is a timeless motif that does not disappear from the range of wedding dresses, only this year they are even more expressive, three-dimensional and with different textures.

These are two wedding dress details that are constantly changing over the years. This year, strapless wedding dresses, square and sweetheart necklines will dominate, and you can also expect to see detachable sleeves and angular shoulders in the style of the 80s.

Feathers and various shiny details appear in wedding trends every few years, but this year bold brides can not be afraid to add more “bling-bling” moments to their image, as these luxurious details have once again conquered the podiums.

“Modern wedding dresses these days often combine two, three or even more trends, so brides don’t have to stick to one particular style if they want to. Team an eighties dress with stylish puff sleeves or a dramatic veil – the day is yours and yours alone, so look your heart’s desire.

And the last, no less important accent, which all style experts recommend to keep in mind and think about in advance, is the hairstyle and accessories. It is customary to match the hair and makeup to the dress, but it is also possible that the bride has a very clear vision of the hairstyle, which will become the “nail” of the whole image. In this case, healthy, well-groomed, shiny hair and head accessories are more important than the wedding dress.

For example, the veil, which disappeared from the peaks of popularity a couple of years ago, has now confidently returned and is more creative – embroidered, decorated with various appliqués and laces, decorated with pearls and other details. In addition to this headdress, various hair bows, other hair accessories and live flowers are also popular, it is important that everything is not too much and that the accessories do not distract attention from the main accent – the bride’s shining eyes,” – dress designer R. Rimgailaite advises not to limit your imagination, but also do not exaggerate.
