The ambitious idea to create an underwater tunnel from Spain to Morocco has been in the air since 1979, and now it can finally come true, reports Euronews.com.

The initiative to create an underwater railway connection between Europe and Africa with a budget of six billion euros is expected to be implemented by 2030. This ambitious project will be implemented in time for the main football event – the World Cup, which will take place in Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Traveling from Spain to Morocco today only takes an hour and a half by plane or nine hours by ferry, but the new underwater tunnel will offer an alternative and possibly more convenient route.

Despite the willingness to invest significant funds in the project, the actual cost could be much higher than expected. Morocco’s National Straits Exploration Company is currently analyzing key aspects of the project, and if construction is successfully completed, the tunnel is expected to carry more than 12 million travelers annually.

Morocco, with its unique blend of European and African flavors, continues to attract tourists, offering them the opportunity to enjoy enchanting landscapes and amazing culture.
