Ukrainian women “tempt starving Russian soldiers to death with poisoned cakes and sweets” – it’s like a World War II-style resistance movement. Two Russian soldiers were poisoned with a piece of cake and 28 others were poisoned. Civilians in the frontline regions are believed to be playing a key role in the resistance effort, including serving as “honey traps” for hungry, lonely Russian troops, British tabloid The Sun reports.

The northeastern Ukrainian city of Izyum, which had been under brutal Russian occupation for five months at the beginning of the war, had become a site of fierce resistance. In the first days of the occupation, two Russians were even poisoned and 28 were taken to the hospital when local residents treated them with poisoned cakes.

Cakes plot followed a September 2022 report that Ukrainian hackers were targeting Putin’s forces with fake attractive women’s accounts. Frontline soldiers were tricked into taking photos so that they would pass on secret information that could be used to determine their geographic location.

This intelligence was then passed on to the Ukrainian military and used to direct precision strikes against enemy targets. It seems that profitable the tactics are continued, the publication writes.

Other Ukrainian intelligence reports detail how Ukrainian women by accident have intercepted Russian troops using AI-generated profiles of Russian women on dating apps. Last summer, two women revealed how they spend their free time talking to Russian troops stuck in trenches in the hope that they will pass on location secrets.

“Some of them are really desperate and in love with us so much that they ask us to marry them right after a few days or weeks,” one woman told The Times.

Throughout the Russian-occupied territories, brave Ukrainian men and women risk their lives to secretly deliver secrets to Ukrainian intelligence services, including photographing enemy barracks, bases, and weapons and ammunition depots. But other sabotage operations have been more direct.

Last September, a Russian general was seriously injured after being given a “mined phone” by the Ukrainian secret service. In November 2023, two Russian security officials were blown up in a car bomb in occupied Luhansk. In the same month, another car bomb killed a pro-Russian Ukrainian lawmaker.

The Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine (GUR) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was cooperating with local guerrillas. Less than 24 hours later, a second traitorous Ukrainian member of parliament was killed.
