Around 100 students from the University of Vienna in the Austrian capital set up a tent city this week to protest Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip. The management of the University of Vienna and the Austrian Ministry of Education strongly dissociate themselves from the action and pointed to the insufficient assessment of terror by “Hamas”. The Austrian police are keeping an eye on the activists, but so far they see no reason to liquidate the camp.

A similar situation has developed in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, where student activists demand that the university recognize Israel’s activities as genocide, call for a ceasefire and the siege of the Gaza Strip. There are also calls in Copenhagen to boycott Israeli academic institutions and not accept donations from companies that profit from the occupation of Palestine.

Various actions also took place in other European cities, including the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, where clashes broke out between protesters and security guards at the University of Amsterdam. 125 activists were arrested in Amsterdam and a Palestinian support camp was demolished.

Police also targeted activists in France and Switzerland.
