Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago has ushered in a new era of war in Europe, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said.

“I know it sounds devastating, especially for the younger generation, but we have to get used to the fact that a new era has begun: the pre-war era. I’m not exaggerating, it’s becoming clearer every day,” Tusk said in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt. and other European media.

“I don’t want to scare anyone, but war is no longer a concept from the past. It is real and it started more than two years ago,” Tusk said.

The most worrying thing right now is that literally any scenario is possible, Tusk said. “We have not experienced such a situation since 1945.”

At the same time, Tusk said that he observed a revolution in the European mentality. No one doubts the need for a common defense anymore.

“Look at Germany, where a huge turnaround has taken place. Today, the CDU and the SPD are competing to see which one is more pro-Ukrainian,” Tusk said.

In light of Russia’s efforts to send migrants into the European Union (EU), he called for more consistent protection of the EU’s external border.

“The European Union as a whole, as a strong organization, must be mentally prepared to fight for the security of our borders and our territory,” Tusk said.
