Until May 4, JSC “AJ Power Recycling” in cooperation with SIA “3R” and Bauskas novada komunālserviss municipal company of Bauskas region organizes the campaign “Give tires a second life”.

During the promotion, in two places in Bauskas district – Bauskas, Biržu street 8b 5, Iecava and Edvarta Virzas street 46, it is possible to give tires to residents for free.
Zane Zauere, head of the waste management department of SIA “Bauskas novada komunālserviss”, admitted that the activity of residents is very high. By Friday, April 26, 2185 tires were imported to Bauska. For comparison, Z. Zauere mentions last year’s data, when 1852 tires were handed over during the spring campaign, and 573 tires during the autumn campaign. The campaign will continue next week and it is expected that the amount of used tires will increase.
The campaign organizers draw attention to the fact that it is possible to transfer one set of tires from one car (four passenger car tires without rims). When entering the sorted waste reception area, the car number will be registered. The rest of the time, they are accepted at separate waste collection points for a fee depending on the tire diameter.

Tires are accepted at the Bauska waste disposal area on Biržu street 8b on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tires can be returned to Ecavas free of charge only on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. 17.
Those living on the Vecumnieki side can also get rid of excess tires. The administration of the elderly association in cooperation with SIA “Bauskas novada komunālserviss” provides free collection of tires and used electrical goods until Tuesday, April 30.
Delivery of tires and used electrical goods is possible on weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Vecumnieki, Ceriņu Street 17 (on the territory of the boiler house). It should be noted that the unloading of used tires and electrical goods is possible only in the presence of an employee of SIA “Bauskas novada komunālserviss”, the company invites you to apply by phone: +371 29699241.

“Used tires should definitely not be thrown away with other waste or disposed of by throwing them into nature. Tires are environmentally harmful goods, so their disposal should be entrusted to recycling companies. We are glad that the annual environmental campaign is showing better and better results. The number of responsible car owners is growing every year, and thus the environment around us is becoming cleaner and safer. With the course of the campaign, we make tire disposal easily accessible to a large number of citizens, because it is precisely the free disposal of used tires that stimulates responsible tire management,” said Uldis Skrebs, member of the board of JSC “AJ Power Recycling”.
In the coming years, free drop-off points should likely be available for free all year round, as EU requirements require member states to collect an ever-increasing percentage of sales back for recycling each year.
Atis Treijs, Director of the Department of Waste Management of the State Environmental Service, in an interview with Latvian Television, reminded that the manufacturer is responsible for the product he produces: “When selling a tire, the citizen who buys this tire is partially already subsidizing this [procesu] further, when this tire becomes waste, its collection, the opportunity to hand over the tires free of charge, so that there is no situation where the tires are thrown into the forest or accumulated in large quantities in some other areas.”
In 2025, Latvia and other European Union member states will have to collect back 90% of the volume of tires sold on the market.
